About
I work as Staff Scientis at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. I also serve as a Director of the Materials Genome Foundation along with Richard Otis and Zi-Kui Liu.
I am interested in many things, but mostly I love building tools and solving problems. An (infrequently updated) CV can be found here.
Projects I work on
- PyCalphad: a Python library for thermodynamic modeling, calculations and visualizations. R. Otis & Z.-K. Liu. pycalphad: CALPHAD-based Computational Thermodynamics in Python. J. Open Res. Softw. 5, 1 (2017). doi.org/10.5334/jors.140
- ESPEI: ESPEI, or Extensible Self-optimizing Phase Equilibria Infrastructure, is a tool for automated thermodynamic database development within the CALPHAD method leveraging pycalphad.
- phasediagrams.org: a project I started in response to this wonderful paper and collection of papers by Bengt Hallstedt. It is a PyCalphad-powered site to freely provides Calphad databases and phase diagrams.
- try.pycalphad.org: a JupyterLite deployment where anyone can try out the PyCalphad ecosystem without installing anything. All content and notebooks run locally through webassembly. Repo is open source.
